Rye Me a River

Add all ingredients to a short Collins glass with a large ice cube. Stir well, and garnish with a candied grape. Optional presentation: Serve up in a martini glass.


  • 1.5 oz Winter Gin
  • 0.5 oz toasted rye syrup*
  • 4-5 dashes each of Angostura & orange bitters
  • Candied grape or brandied cherry optional**

*Toasted Rye Syrup

  • 1 c water
  • 1 c white sugar
  • 6 g rye

Toast rye in a saucepan until fragrant (not burnt). Add sugar and water and bring to a boil. Let simmer for 15 min. then strain into a sealed container. Store in the refrigerator for up to one week.

**Candied Grapes

  • 1 c red or Concord grapes
  • 1 c sugar
  • 3-4 orange peel slices

Place all ingredients in a sealed container and let rest for 2-3 days at room temperature, occasionally shaking to mix.
